We are recruiting a Research Associate. The postholder will undertake quantitative research in the field of social policy including in the education, social work, criminal justice and benefits. They will be able to design and undertake quantitative research associated with counterfactual impact evaluations such as RCTs and quasi-experimental designs. They will be able to undertake multilevel regression models on complex data using statistical analysis packages such as STATA or R.
The post is based in the Policy Evaluation and Research Unit (PERU), part of the Sociology Department at Manchester Metropolitan University. PERU is a multi-disciplinary team of evaluators, economists, sociologists and criminologists. We specialise in evaluating policies, programmes and projects and advising national and local policy-makers on the development of evidence-informed policy. We work in the UK and Europe for clients and funders including UK government departments, local government, the voluntary sector and the European Commission. What makes our work distinct is our emphasis on methodological rigour. We work across sectors that include criminal justice, education, youth engagement and radicalisation, welfare reform and social innovation.
A substantial part of the role will be to work on a projects won through the framework agreements the Policy and Evaluation Research Unit holds with a number of What Works Centres as well as quantitative evaluations commissioned by government departments and large NGOs.
