Professor Gary Painter

Responsibilities

Gary is a Visiting Professor. His home institution is the University of Southern California. He has been collaborating with PERU for several years, including on a book on Payment by Results and Social Impact Bonds: Outcome-based payment systems in the UK and US that was published by Policy Press/University of Chicago Press in 2018. Currently Gary is working with PERU on several articles exploring different aspects of Social Impact Bonds and impact investing.

Background

Gary Painter is the Director of the Price Center for Social Innovation at the University of Southern California. In the US he is a leading figure in the field of social innovation. He works extensively with a variety of social innovation organizations and collective impact networks to address some of the grand challenges that society faces. His current research focuses on how to activate the social innovation process.

He is also Director of the Homelessness Policy Research Institute at USP and is a widely respected commentator on social housing in the US. He is a previous President and Vice-President of the American Real Estate and Urban Economics Association.

In addition he also has expertise in education and programme evaluation.
